Extract from the Revd. Mr. Wilson’s Letter to Mr. Bell dated Novr. 19th. 1799

‘A Person of some respectability has lately inform’d me that he & some Friends are ready to to take a Leadmine in the Parish of Wolsingham upon the following Terms which he desired me to mention and which I beg the Favour of you to communicate to Colonel Beaumont & Mr. Alderman Blackett if you think proper. If they can obtain a Lease they will agree to give 1/6 of the Produce clear of every Expence and pay the Rector’s Tithe besides which would make the Dues little short of ¼.’

Extract from Mr. Wilson’s Letter to Mr. Blackett dated Mar 21st. 1800

‘If they can have a Lease from Colonel Beaumont they are willing to pay 1/6 of the Produce in clear well wash’d Ore ready for the Smelting Mill clear of all Deductions whatsoever, & also pay the Rector his Tithe’.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
