								Unthank 24 Jany. 1779

Dear Madm.

I was in hope of hearing from your Son but since have been told Mr. Angus prevented it for reason best known to himself.

I have not been able to get into Hexhamshire this some months, but have been told the Ingen [engine] has been standing some time. You will be so good as let me know Mr. Bakers resolution wch. shall esteem a favour. The Ingen standing still will hurt him more ways than common use.

I hope you and your Son are both well. I wish you and him a succession of happy years.

Believe me Dr. Madm. Your Ever Obed. Servt.

      Jno Westgarth

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
