The humble Petition of William Dodds

Sheweth

That your Petitioner most humbly presumes himself fit to serve as a Boatman to his Majesty’s Custom House at North Shields where there is at present a Vacancy.



Your Petitioner therefore most humbly prays your Honour, to use your Interest to get him appointed as such to the said Vacancy, assuring you that should he be so happy as to be placed, he will do his utmost Endeavours to discharge his Duty faithfully therein —



And your Petitioner, as in Duty bound, shall ever pray, &c.





June 12th. 1796

We whose Names are herewith subscribed being Freeholders do recommend Mr. William Dodds of Howdon Panns as a person of a good Moral Character, and very fit to serve as a Boatman, to the Customs House at North Shields.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale.
