To Mr Simpson Ravensworth Castle Feb. 21 1758

Sir

I have the favour of yours by this Post, and am glad to hear you have reason to hope the plaintiff will not proceed to Tryal, but notwithstanding this you (as an old experienced Officer) will I doubt not think it necessary to be preparing proper Artillery for defence. Mr Everest I have a Letter from this Post who says he has heard nothing from you, wch. I am surprised at, as you wrote me you had sent him all necessary lights for his Information and direction. He desires me to send him a Copy of the notice of declaration served on Edw. Nicholson, but as I have no Copy of it I have wrote him I have desired you to send it him if not done already wch. I desire you will do. The Board of Directors have been fully acquainted wth. this Affair and that Marshall Simpson has the Command in the North. I am Sir,

      Yours etc N Walton
