Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 9th. January 1787

We have recd. your Letter of the 8th. Inst. with the Two Weeks Coal Accounts. It is necessary not to begin the Lead Carriage from the Mill till all is brought to Newcastle which is now upon the Road and therefore let the Inconvenience of Expense be what they will this must be dispensed with and care must be taken not to do anything which may endanger the Buildings. Pray cannot you take some of the Lead down to the Blagill Mill Lead Yard and lodge it there ‘till the Carriage begins again? By permission we shd. think that might be done and we think John Mulcaster wd. take as much care of it as he wd. do of the Blagill Co. Lead. We wish to receive an Acct. of the Quantity of Lead that has been deliv[ere]d from the Lead Mill to each Carrier since last Lead Carriage Pay & are

      Your Humble Servts.

      Walton & Turner

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
