Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 4th April 1783

We have rec’d your Letter of the 31st Ult. with several enclosures you mention. We doubt not you will have all ready against the Pay and we wish every thing to be included in the Pay Bill that can be & don’t wish to see it ‘till we come to the Mill. As soon as you can pray let us have an account of the Lead delivered from the Mill since last Lead Carriers Pay to the time that the whole of the Lead for last years Ore will be delivered and in addition to what has been already said as to the getting of the Lead in we must acquaint you that unless the Carriers deliver the whole in by Easter Monday including the default for Thomas Ions, we shall not make a Pay ‘till August of the Lead Carriage.

The account you give us for your own neighbourhood as also of Alston Moor causes us much concern and we most heartily wish a compleat recovery to them who are afflicted and an entire ceasing of those <………..> which are the cause of the present distressing situation of the Inhabitants who from connection, exclusive of natural inclination, we can not but wish well to.

      We are Your Humble Servants

      Walton & Turner

PS We are much obliged by your continuation of the History of the Smoke and wish very heartily it could be brought to a good __ Finis

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
