Messrs Mulcaster Farnacres 26 January 1787

We have rec[eive]d both your Letters and also one from Mr Ruddock and are sorry to see that nothing can yet be got done about the Pig of Lead at Corbridge. We approved to Mr Ruddock talking the matter over with Mr Williamson and hope after all something affectual may be hit off. We have written to Mr Ruddock and sent the letter to meet him at Mr Williamsons. We think it will tho’ more troublesome (than having the initials of the Lead Carriers <merged> together) certainly be proper to have a number of Letters made and shall order Two sets or perhaps something of the kind may be had at Newcastle ready made and if so we will bring them with us to Corbridge on Tuesday, and deliver them to you the next day at the Lead Carriage Pay. We shall expect to see one of you at Corbridge with the necessary Books etc for the Pay on Tuesday Evening and we hope the Carriers will come early the next morning. We are

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
