Messr. Mulcaster Farnacres 25th. Janry. 1785

We have recd. your Letter of the 19th. Inst and re very much surprised at Mr. Bells behaviour. You are desired to acquaint him the first convenient opportunity that we think ourselves exceedingly ill treated by his attempt to throw a difficulty upon us and that we shall most assuredly pay the Carriers the usual price of 3 ½d per piece from the Mill to Hexham and 8 ½ from Hexham to Newcastle and if he is not content with that we must insist upon his giving up carrying for us. We are confident we can do without one Hexham Carrier & if those Gents. think proper to interfere with us in the management of our business and make any further attempts to manage us we will shew them that we will not be led by them.

We have Matthew Temperleys Letter & approve of his altering the price of working the Coals.

What you have said concerning the Plankey Mill and Ground is very agreeable to us & Mr. Thorntons behaviour seems not a little extraordinary but shall not say more on this subject till we hear further from you on him. It will certainly be right to get the Fences at Sillywray done wth. all Expedition.

Messrs. Taylors Bill shall be pd. and we think that they ought not to be further dealt with. We are
