Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 25 Feb. 1785

We have recd. your Letter of the 21st. Inst. and exceedingly approve of the last Alteration. It will make every thing much more convenient, and will certainly cost less Money than in the other way that had before been tho[ugh]t of. As to what relates to the Bingsteads, Peat House, Office and Smelters Room, that may be settled any time, but at present we think it will be the best way to alter the Cottage so as to have an Office below, and Smelters Lodging above, that the lower door shd. remain as it is, that the Staircase shd. be taken away and a Stone Staircase built on the Outside for the Smelters Lodging Room. The whole now depends upon the Determination of the Blagill Company, and consequent Determination of the Commissioners & Gov[erno]r of Greenwich Hospital, for tho’ the <expense> will exceed> your expectations as well as our own, yet we cannot think that to be an Object to prevent the carrying this Scheme into execution.

Yesterday and this Day we have a Gentle Thaw, and as the Wind has been South West and West, we hope it has taken place with you. We are

      Your Hble Servts.

      Walton & Turner

PS. We yesterday had the Masons & the Carpenter and MillWright, and have gone thro’ and settled all the Estimates.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
