Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 25th. Decemr. 1786

The Silver weighed exactly 960 Ounces but we find it to be short of the Assay

                                 42 3 10 8 ac to our computation

847oz Operation endg 28 Oct over 3 5 11 3 Assay made 4 Octr. 1786

The two from Assays of 4th. Octor. & 10th. Decemr. are very good work indeed but there certainly must have been some neglect in working the last Operation the Refined Lead being Quite too rich in Silver there being by Assay left in it at the rate of 14. 16. 8 per Fodder which is 4 21 6 more than was left in the Refined Lead of the operation

preceding which Multiplied by <81> is equal to 19. 16. 21. 6

         which deducted from 42 3 10 8

                             19 16 21 6

Still wd. have been short 22 6 13 2 if the work had been apparently as well done as the preceding Operation according to Assay so there is probably some thing due to bad work and some thing to this uncertainty of reckoning by Assay. We heartily wish you both and yr. respective connections many happy returns of the Season and are

       Your Humble Servants

       Walton & Turner

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
