Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 24 December 1784

We have recd. your Letter of the 21st. Inst wth. the Voucher and are glad to hear the Cash which was put up turned out right upon the whole. As to the Copper Mr. Walton distinctly remembers that the George the Third full weight half pence wch. were not told over were reckoned to be £2. 8. 6 and that the Copper in the Box wch, was told over was … 16. 6

He also recollects that he received £3. 5. – [ie correct addition] & no more except that Messrs. Mulcaster got 2s. in Copper for which they pd. 2s. & that either Jno. Friend or Thos. Temperley got 1s. in Copper for which 1s. was paid. He really cannot help thinking that the George the 3rd. Copper had been set short down 6d. & that a Halfpenny had been short put up on the Day and consequently you will owe us 5s./11 ½. With regard to the Rye we believe all will be right but have not time to see how that is. It is certain we have not pd. for the last that was got & Mr. Walton has often ment[ione]d that to Mr. Harbottle who will not receive the Money ‘till we begin to deal with him again. Mr. Thornton must pay you the £15 but you need not give him a Rect. and when you receive the £26. -. 8 take up Mr. Thorntons Rect> which he gave Thos Coats if he gave one & give it to Mr. T & give Thos Coats a Recet. for £35 - <Acq.t> of Stamp 8d & date the Recet. for the whole £35 - in the day you receive the £20. - 8. You are desired to take £20 - of Ann Brown and you may give her for this <time> a Recet. on one of the Blank 4 penny Stamps wch. we let you have but tell her that her having to pay for so many more Recets. is owing to the Rent being not so well paid as it ought to be & that the Credit we have given her, the Interest of the Money considered, will amount to more than our demands for Stamps & Acquitts and perhaps the Sum of Six Pence may be saved if she will pay £25 instead of £20 which will clear her to Mayday last.

We approve of your allowing the Smelters to rest next Week and of what you propose as to George Ridley. We are

	Your Humble Servts.

      Walton & Turner

PS. We inclose you yr. Recet for the Ore Carriage Money to be destroyed. It has been a gentle Thaw ever since yesterday Evening, but it is now beginning to Freeze again. Mr. Walton Sen. has recd. yr. Letter is much obliged and you will soon hear from him.

Since writing the above we have ex[amine]d the Rye Account & find all was fully discharged by Jno. Friend 13 May last & that there still remains for us to pay £7. 17. 6. The Sum pd. by Jno. Friend was £22. 6. including the £7. 7. 6 for 42 Bushels got in Febry. 17 1783.
