Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 23 May 1783

We have recd. your Letter of the 20th inst, and we cannot by any means understand James Watsons Direction which he has given to you, we shall not order any Timber ’til you get clear Instructions from him. We are indeed much surprised to receive such an Acct. from you, and thought upon reading your Letter that we must have been mistaken, and really it astonishes us you could be so readily imposed upon. The Slates must be got from Lough Green and you are desired to apply to Mr. Thornton immediately as to that.

We beg you will do every thing that is necessary to be secure in making the Trial to cure the smoaky Chimnies and are

      Your Hble Servts.

      Walton & Turner

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
