Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 21st May 1783

We have recd. yours of the 19th inst and desire that Francis <Shield> may by no means be admitted to be School Master and in case the Number of the Scholars shd. continue to discourage others offering, if you could let the School for this year to one of our Workmen at Langley Lead Mill we shd. like that much.

We find Mr. Blackett has sent Corn to Allen Heads and therefore we by you will make it immediately known that the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital will continue to furnish their Workmen at Langley Mill wth. Corn at Prime Cost, and will certainly do the same both at Nent Force Level & Stublick Colliery; we therefore desire you will take in Stublick Colliery in your next Quantity, and that you will write to John Friend & let us know by Sunday Post from Hexham what Quantity will be wanted monthly for Nent Force Level Mine including Workmen at Thortergill Syke Veins. We are

      Your Hble Servts.

      Walton & Turner

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
