Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 19th. June 1785

We have recd. your two Letters of the 17th. and one of the 18th. inst, and have already given what will be an answer to yours concerning the Bone Ashes for the Blagill Comp.y

We are very glad Messrs. Mulcaster & Wood had so good an Opportunity of seeing the Works at Acton Mill; are much obliged by your Attention and Particulars you have given us which you may depend upon it shall be attended to.

The following is an acct. of all the Lead which was pd. for at the Lead Carriage Pay on the 12th Day of May 1784 as being lost.

John Corbett 3 pieces £3 12 -

Thomas Ions 3 Do. 3 12 -

Willm. Bell 1 Do. 1 4 -

                        £8 8 -

On the 15th. inst Jno. Corbett Junr. deliv[ere]d the Recet. for his Fathers 3 & Thos. Ions also deliv[ere]d his Recet. for 3, on their respectively having a proportional Allowance on acct. of 6 Pieces out of the 7 having been found to be in the Warehouse and we are ready to return Wm. Bell a proportional Allowance for the piece he paid for, but as we have not the least reason to think that any Carrier except the above three pd. for lost Lead on the 12th. May 1784 we shall by no means think of making an Allowance beyond the above unless Receipts are produced to convince us of our being in Error.

Tho’ we do not think Wm. Forster by any means intitled to our Favour on acct. of his improper Behaviour respecting the purchase of some Oak Bark belonging to Greenwich Hospital yet you will recollect that we have forgiven this when you consider what passed respecting his being employed as Refiner, and whenever it appears to us that we can with propriety make him an Allowance for the <Hudstones &c> he may depend upon the Memorandum which you have given us having the full Effect, but it is possible that we may not have any thing in our power upon the occasion.

You may go on paying the Brick Makers as usual ’til they finish, but you must not settle an acct. with them. We will settle the whole with George Turner himself at this place, and therefore after all is finished, we must desire you will send us the Particulars of the whole. We are

      Your Hble Servts.

      Walton & Turner

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
