Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 13th May 1783

Having examined all the Vouchers and Recd.<p[iec]es>, we find that they agree with the Pay Bill, and we also find that the Cash repaid you is right as you will see by the inclosed Paper.

On considering the matter as to the furnishing of Corn we think it will not be proper for Greenwich Hospital to do it, tho’ perhaps in strictness that would be right. The cause of our Delicacy on this occasion is on acct. of the Proprietors of other Lead Mills who, if the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital were to furnish their Workmen, might find it a matter of necessity to furnish theirs, and blame us on that account. We therefore think if anything is done it ought to be by you as taking the matter up entirely on your own Account, and if you incline to do this, we will advance you Money on your Recets. as you may have occasion to draw for it, as we have no doubt but you will arrange the Business with discretion.

      We are Your Hble. Servts.

      Walton & Turner

PS. We believe our <Cash> will be found short upon the whole 3d. The Deals &c shall be ordered to come on Friday.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
