Messrs. Mulcaster Farnacres 10th. November 1786

We have recd. your Letter of the 8th. & 9th. Instant and are sorry to find the business as to the Lead Stealing stands so very differently from what we hoped for, however we think all has been done that can be so far as we have gone and that under the present circumstances we cannot do more for as to Mr. Strickland & Jane Stuart it might perhaps be very difficult to find them and we have at present no Information to ground a commitment upon. As to Havelock I see his Evidence wd. overturn what has been taken down from Ann Strickland and with regard to Ramsay his Evidence would directly contradict the assertions contained in the narrative taken from Ann Strickland. The Matter must therefore rest for the present that is it must rest ‘till we see whether anything further can be made of it & indeed we incline to think that if it rests where it is it may prove to be best of all. That will however depend upon Circumstances by which we must be all guided in case of further Information. As to the Woman we never doubted her being a bad one.

We have written to Mr. Tweddell from whom we have not had a Syllable by the North Post and we have also written to Mr. Teesdale from whom we have a Letter. We are

      Your Humble Servts.

      Walton & Turner

PS. We must desire to have Mr. Williamsons Original Opinion.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
