To John Ibbetson Esqr Farnacres 29th October 1778

Sir

Messrs Walton & Smeaton in their letter of the 28 May 1772 stated several matters relative to the Riding of the Boundary of Langley South Common in consequence of which the Board desired to be informed if it was essential to the Interest of the Hospital to have the disputed parts of that Boundary settled and if so the proper mode of proceeding. - In answer to this Messrs Walton & Smeaton wrote the Board the 26th July 1772 that tho' it was certain nothing could be more agreeable than to have those kind of disputes settled it did not appear there was an opening for the doing of it by the riding of the Boundary and that all circumstances then considered it did not seem to them that the Hospital would gain any thing by entering into a dispute or Treaty or that any thing would be lost by letting matters stand as they did 'til something gave rise to one or the other.

Sir Thomas Blackett Baronet now Owner of the Regality of Hexham & Mr. Wm. Cuthbert owner of an Estate called Knubbuck on which Langley South Common adjoins have proposed to us that they are willing either that the Lines of Boundary shd be settled by Referees or determined by Suit as shall be most agreeable to the Commissioners & Governors of Greenwich Hospital and they have desired us to give intimation of this to the Hospital which we now do and shall be glad to receive the Boards directions herein. We are Sir Yours &c

      N W Junr. J.C.T.
