To John Ibbetson Esqr Farnacres the 2d May 1779

Sir

Having exerted myself to the utmost of my power; I now take the very first opportunity of sending you a Report on the biddings for the Derwentwater Farms &c, to which I beg leave to refer, and you'll observe several of the Proposers have given up their Proposals, and I most earnestly request that you will, if you have not done so before this reaches your hands, arm us w'th powers to putt the eligible persons into possession upon the 12th of May Instant, for is that is not done there will most assuredly be a Loss of many more of the Proposers. I hope you have already sent us discretionary powers agreeable to what I wrote you, which will relieve me from a difficulty which Indeed I feel beyond expression, which is the Idea of being under a necessity of acting in this busyness without directions, which we certainly must if we do not receive them in time, or otherwise the Hospital will beyond doubt suffer very considerably. The report for Alston moor and Keswick shall be sent as Soon as possible. Weshall be glad to hear from you & I am

Sir Yours &c N Walton Junr.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
