To John Ibbetson Esqr . Farnacres 10th June 1779

Sir

You receive herein our Cash Acount for the month of April upon which there is a Balance of £904:14:5 ½ in favor of Greenwich Hospital and we have since remitted £2000 in discharge thereof and in part of our Rece'ts in the Month of May with which be pleased to acquaint the Board.

The new Tenants have several of them been very pressing upon us for Repairs and additional Conveniencies and it is so absolutely necessary to proceed upon several, indeed a considerable part, this Season that not having it in our power to get the Boards directions in time without losing the opportunity of doing the Work in proper time we must beg to be indulged by setting forward those Buildings and repairs which cannot be deferred without distressing or causing real inconvenience to the Tenants and we shall as soon as we possibly can send Estimates and an Account of our Transactions herein.

As most of the Tenants will have occasion to take up fresh Ground and as in some cases that have already arose and in several others which we see will arise the giving leave this Season cannot be avoided without injuring the Hospital as well as the Tenants we shall be indispensably obliged to grant Licences; and the Board may be assured of our utmost care on every application. We have given full directions to the Bailiffs to be attentive to the Hospitals Interest on this occasion and have every reason to think that the several Estates will not in the least suffer but be improved by granting licences to take up such parcels of Ground as have either been too long in Grass or which may want improvement which cannot be made without their being Plowed. We are

      Sir Yours &c

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
