At Greenwich

My Lord

The liberty we take in giving your Lordship this Trouble is occasioned by a Letter we received last post from the Secretary for Greenwich Hospital Inclosing an anonymous letter addressed to a member of Parliament recommending an Enquiry into the management of the Derwentwater Estate.

We have wrote this day to the Secretary in Answer to the sd. Letter by the Boards command, which will be read at Salters Hall next Wednesday, and as we think it our Duty to acquaint your Lordship with the whole affair we Send you Inclosed a Coppy of said Anonymous letter , our answer thereto, & an Abstract of the Rental of the Derwentwater Estate as it came to us in the year 1734 and as Lett at Mayday 1758 Shewing an advance.

Our Conduct my Lord has been such that we are in no Concerne as to Any Enquiry and we shall not say more in our Justification than may be observed in our Answer to the Secretary which contains plain Matters of Fact & we can ask nothing of your Lordship but that you will take the Trouble to peruse it and make use of it as you think we deserve. The certain [underlined space left] hinted at who procured Thos. Scott his Farme is Lord Barrington & the writer of the Anonymous letter is one William Ancrum a late Tenant at Scremerston who being greatly in Arrear so long agoe as the year 1749 Set up Severall unreasonable Claimes against it, & having at Mayday 1758 lost his Farme throws of this Resentmt.

We hope your Lordship will Excuse this Trouble from
