To Mr Woodhouse Ravensworth Castle March 10 1758

Dear Sir

We reced. yours acquainting us with the Charitable disposition your Friend has made for the Support of poor Clergyman; and are extremely obliged to you for the opportunity you give us of recommending proper Objects of the Charity. There are many in the Countys of Cumberland and Westmorland who come under the discription, but as we shall be carefull in recommending, you will not have many from us. One we begg leave to mention to you; a Gentleman who had a liberall Education had a Living given him of abt. £200 p Annum, but by some accident or other (a Suit at law with his Parishioners one) he was reduced in Circumstances, his Living sequestered & now Lives upon an allowance of Thirty pound p Annum which is the only Income he has Exclusive of Charity. His name is Christian, settled at Keswick in Cumberlnad and is a man worthy of every friendly Office; & if he comes within the Rule it would give us pleasure if you can recommend him to the Charity. We would be glad to hear from you soon on this head as the one of us will be at Keswick very soon when a proper Certificate may be had to Satisfy you as the Circumstances of Mr Christian.

Our General Accot. for two years Ending the 30 June last was sent by us the 24 Feby. Last directed to the care of Richd. Horne Esqr. which we apprehend will be with him tomorrow and be laid before the Board of Directors next Wednesday which of course will bring it before you soon afterwards and in time to have all the Examination gone thro before the next declaration. We will therefore be much obliged to you for giving it all the necessary dispatch.

We have taken a great deal of Pains to procure you a Horse but indeed have not been able to find one we dare venture to recommend. If therefore you could Supply your Self with one in London it would be very agreeable to us, who would be glad to be at any expence on that occasion. Our Complim’ts attend Mrs Woodhouse & all Friends, & we are

Sir your most Obliged & Humble Servts.

      Nicho Walton Hugh Boag

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
