To Mr Rudd Newcastle 5 May 1730

Sr, I have recd your Acct for the Month of May from wch I note only 30 ps of lead sent from the mill, pray is not the way yet passable or what is the Reason the Carriage is not set on at this Leasure time when people have nothing else to do. I recommend it to you to hasten away all the Lead to Markett without loss of time before harvest comes on, & if there is any thing that prevents the Carryers setting on, immediately apply to Mr Hunter to remove the Obstruction, for if we get not the Lead to Markett while the Demand continues you may as well keep it till another year. By your smelting I am affraid you want water, pray cannot you keep your Slags nearer for I find they increase upon you considerably, I am &c	JR
though placement & content suggests June

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
