Thos Richard Beaumont Esqr Newcastle 3d Nov 1793

    Bretton near Wakefield Yorkshire

Dear Sir	I had the favour of your Letter enclosing the Power of Attorney etc. It is well that Mr Straker is joined with me in the Power as I shall have had a difficulty in attending the Commission having met with an accident at Sir J Clavering’s about Ten days ago by falling with my leg against the Edge of the Stone Steps, Mr Ingham has confined me to the House with my Leg laid up but I am in hopes of being on my Legs again in a few days. I am glad to find that the last Sale of Lead met with your Approbation, I am desirous of selling 10 or 12 Thousand pieces and made offers to the several London Houses which they have refused accepting of; Walkers & Co likewise decline purchasing a Quantity at present as they have already made several purchases and are in expectation that Lead will be lower, but they make me an Offer to take from 400 to 600 in the Month at the Reduced Price of £16-5 or the last prices at 9 Months Credit neither of which Offers I have accepted of I would avoid if possible lowering the price and if they will shorten the Credit I shall be inclined to supply them with the Quantities they may want at the price the last Lead was sold for, at present there is no demand neither is there any prospect of it for the Continent or the East and I am rather apprehensive that Lead will be lower. I shall write to you or Skelton in a few days.

The inclosed Bank post Bill which you paid to Mr Ingham wants your Endorsement, he brought it to me Yesterday and I paid him the amount please to endorse it and return it to me or send me your Reciept for the same. I am etc J.E.B

A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
