Sir John Trevelyan Barot . Newcastle 29th March 1785

Half Moon Street Piccadilly

   London

Dear Sir I wrote to you the 26th inst. & enclosed you Bell & Co’s Bill on Castell & Co at 3 days sight for £20 to which I refer you. Inclosed you have a letter for Mr. Thos. Wall with a Bill for £200 to enable him to pay your Quarterly Payments to 30th June next.

In the Cause which was depending in the Court of Chancery respecting the late Sir Wm. Blackett’s Estates (several of which had been sold to pay Debts & Incumbrances) it appear’d 1st Aug[us]t 1767 that there remain’d £152 . 16 . 1 in the Bank placed to the Credit of the said Cause, & by an Order made by the Court that Sum was laid out on the Purchase of £173 . 3 . 0 in the 3 P[er] Cent Consolidated Annuities the Dividends arising from which were to be Paid to Sir Walter Blackett during his Life & upon the Death of Sir Wr. Blackett any Interested in the said Annuities were to be at Liberty to apply to the Court concerning the same as they should be advanced. The Arrears of Interest remaining unpaid to Sir Wr. Blackett up to his Death are your Property as his Executor and the Dividends which have become due since that time & also the Principal belong to Sir Thos. Blackett Bart. This information I have had from Mr. Wilson who says that a Motion should be made in the Court of Chancery for Liberty to Dispose of the said Stock & to apply the amount of the Interest to the aforesaid Purposes. I should imagine that it should be a joint Motion at the Expence of both Parties in their several Proportions. If Sir Walter Blackett rec[eive]d any part of the Interest of the £173 . 3 .0 it will appear in the late Mr. Darwins private Accounts with him the only one of which in my Possession is for One Year ending April 1776 in which no Credit is given for any Interest on that account. I am etc J. E. Blackett
