To Richd. Horne Esqr. Ravensworth Castle September 14th 1759

Sir

Inclosed we send you our Estimates of several additional Repairs necessary upon the Derwentwater Estate with the agreements we have made for part of them amounting to £150 which we hope the Board will approve. The Repairs necessary upon Throckley Farm amounting to £97 16s 4½d we have not agreed for, as the Tenant claims more than we think needfull, the above is all we think reasonable to be done at the Expense of the Hospital, and we shall endeavour to make an Agreement for it accordingly. The Tenant has laid out a considerable Sum in making Buildings on the Estate for the use of the Colliery, which are a proper charge upon him as Tenant thereof but no way chargeable upon the Hospital in respect of the Farm distinct from the Colliery.

You will likewise receive an Agreement made with Isaac Burnhope for making a Cutt for conveying Water thro’ part of Whitley Mill Ground in Hexhamshire amounting to £13 which we think very necessary to be done and hope the Board will approve of it.

The Tenants of Alstonmoor as you will observe by the enclosed State of the Case have pulled down several Inclosures made from the Common there & threaten to pull down all that have been inclosed within these twenty years which will be a loss to the Revenue of the estate and a Prejudice to Individuals within the Manor. You will therefore be pleased to acquaint the Board therewith & lay before them, the inclosed State of the Case which after they have taken an Opinion upon we would be glad to receive their Commands and are

      Sir Yours etc
