Wednesday 6th May Passed some time with the Workmen on the Shore of the Tyne, where some parts of the breast work of stone that is shaken at the foundation, requires to be strengthened by a row of long piles driven in front of it, which is a slow process. In other parts, it can be done at a cheaper rate by fixing branches of the Trees & large Stones so as to intercept the Gravel, and form a bank by the action of the Water. If the Land to be protected were not so valuable, one would grudge the constant expense of preserving it. Nothing of moment occurred.
