Thursday 14th Went to Newcastle for the first time by the Rail Way - saw Mr Fenwick respecting several Leases which I gave him to prepare. Desired him also to remind Major Johnson’s Assignees of the necessity of discharging their debt to the Hospital, which they paid only in part. Their apology is that the Colliery is doing nothing & that they have not been able to dispose of any of the Ships yet. Applied to the Rail way Agent for payment of the allowances due to the Dilston Tenants for Land occupied by the Railway that I might get their accounts settled at the ensuing Rent day, but found that an order was necessary from a meeting of Directors for the payment. Returned home in the evening.
