Went to Newcastle for the first time by the Rail Way - saw Mr Fenwick respecting several Leases which I gave him to prepare.  Desired him also to remind Major Johnson’s Assignees of the necessity of discharging their debt to the Hospital, which they paid only in part.  Their apology is that the Colliery is doing nothing & that they have not been able to dispose of any of the Ships yet.  Applied to the Rail way Agent for payment of the allowances due to the Dilston Tenants for Land occupied by the Railway that I might get their accounts settled at the ensuing Rent day, but found that an order was necessary from a meeting of Directors for the payment.  Returned home in the evening.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
