Free Print Workshops inspired by Dukesfield Arches

DUKESFIELD IN PRINT

An invitation for all artists, beginners and experienced, to join local printmaker Jan Baxandall for free workshops.
We are holding two half-day workshops and a full day one, to explore through various simple printing techniques, images and ideas inspired by the Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers project. It is hoped that some participants will make their work available to promote and support of the project.

WORKSHOP 1Woodcut technique
15 March, 2014 at St John Lee parish hall, 9.30 am – 12.30 pm

WORKSHOP 2: Woodcut technique
15 March, 2014 at St John Lee parish hall, 1.30 pm – 4.30 pm

For those who took part in our Inspiring Stones art activity last year, one of these half day workshops would be an ideal opportunity to compare ideas and to develop prints from sketches and paintings done then.

WORKSHOP 3 Drypoint techniques
5 April, 2014, 10 am – 4.30 pm.
We will begin with a short visit to Dukesfield Arches to collect material, followed by printing at Slaley Commemoration Hall.
Please bring a packed lunch.

About the workshops:
Jan is an inspiring and experienced professional printer and teacher. She will take as her subjects any images inspired by the Dukesfield project – the Dukesfield Arches, the Lead Way between there and the riverside wharves at Blaydon, the Carriers, their ponies and carts, or more abstract ideas sparked by these images. Participants can gather their own material or use the photographs that will be provided.

Fragments of Jan’s beautiful print work
No previous experience is necessary, all engraving and printing materials, and refreshments will be available, and a printing press will be used at the April workshop.

If you are inspired to follow up your work on your own, some packs of good quality tools and materials will be available for sale.

PLACES ARE LIMITED, SO BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL (see below)
To book please email Mandy at Dukesfield@outlook.com with details of which workshop you would like to attend.
When you book we will send you an information sheet on what to bring with you, and how to get to the venues.
Unfortunately, because of the techniques involved, the workshops are suitable for over 18’s only.

Please note: We are expecting these workshops to be very popular so will impose a £10 charge on ‘no shows’ or cancellations made with less than 1 weeks notice
The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
