General Report of the Teesdale Mines 14th October 1814

Flakebridge Mine The working of this Mine has been entirely delayed driving last Quarter, by a total want of Water to Work the Engine occasioned by an unprecedented continuance of dry Weather should Rains set in shortly we hope however that the <Prospects> of this trial may be in some measure ascertained before the conclusion of the present Quarter.

High Wiregill. The opening out of the Old Workings has been compleated during last Quarter & we have now commenced the proposed trial of the Vein through the difficulties and uncertainty in which it is at present involved by the intersection of a strong Cross Vein, which we hope to be enabled to accomplish without the expence of sinking a Shaft as we had proposed, and thereby ascertain whether or not, in the further prosecution of this trial, it will be necessary to bring up the Low Level.

Wiregill Low Level, is still continuing to be prosecuted under exactly similar circumstances as the last two Quarters.

Lodgesyke Mine, There is little or no Variation in the state and prospects of this Mine since the last Quarters Report, but if there is any alteration it is considered Rather poorer, Notwithstanding, the Court will observe by the annexed list, a general & considerable Reduction in the prices of Raising Ore, which I was induced to make in order to keep pace in some measure with the present unfavourable aspect of the Lead Trade

Brockergill Mine This trial is continuing to be made in the manner proposed on its commencement

Coldberry Mine I have now to Report that a Partnership to whom a Bargain was let last Quarter to cut the Vein Contiguous to the Hush in which it was discovered, have just touched upon a Vein promising in appearance, and have taken an Ore Bargain in it, but in the present stage of the trial it is impossible to pronounce what may be the Result

      Rt Stagg.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
