Sir

      Since we wrote you last, in relation to the proposalls which we Expected woud be made for the Derwentwater Woods in Northumberland we have had any further Information as these Woods, but in regard to the Cumb[erlan]d ones, we have Endeavoured to promote fresh proposalls, we have so farr succeeded that we expect this Post will bring one & we think at £4000, but as most of the Wood Mongers in that County are in a Sort of a partnership, or Combination with Mr Speedings, we find it a verry great difficultie, in getting any other Persons to bid against them. It is our oppinion as it always was that these woods should sell at about £4800, & they surly will do so if they Coud be Sold in p[ar]cells, but from the above Situations of Wood buyers at present we are afraid it will not reach the value. This we desire you will Consider well & whether it may be proper to postpone the Sale another year for the Cumberland Woods in which time we may probably find ways & means to break the Schemes of the present intending purchasers, we coud wish to do our best Service in this affair & we are
