Messrs Mulcaster Farnacres 28th Febry 1787.

As we have a chance of agreeing with Messrs Walker & Co for a considerable Quantity of Litharge, just as it runs from the Test, we desire youll weigh all the Litharge which you produce after you receive this and compare that with the produce of Refined Lead from it – only you must reserve about 28 cwt for filling 4 casks with such kind of Litharge which we expect you will receive by John Corbett on Friday. These 4 casks are by way of Tryal. We have your Letters of the 17th, 19th & 26th now before us. We have corrected all the errors in the Operations and have rec[eive]d Matthew Temperley’s two weeks coal Acc[oun]ts & the Operation for this Month. The Bullion came safe, you have done right as to Rampgill Slag. Lead we expect will be at £17.10 very soon. We will order a Quarter Barell of Gunpowder. You are desired to do as you propose as to Messrs Ruddock and Tweddell. We are etc.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
