Messrs Mulcaster Farnacres 20 April 1787.

On considering your Memorandums delivered to us at Langley Mill we have th[ough]t proper to order the Iron Nails & Ream of paper to be sent by John Corbett this Day, and have ordered 150 Casks of Bone Ashes to be sent from London to keep up the Stock at the Mill. If you have occasion for any fresh Ash Wood you must purchase it as the season is now over for cutting that kind of Wood. In November next year your Wants of that kind may be supplied from the Hospitals Woods. You may give Wm Watson leave to let Francis Robertson have one of his Meadow Closes and a Pasture Stint. It does not seem necessary to make any further inquiry of Ann Strickland. You must do what you are of opinion is necessary as to the repairing of the present Roads belonging to Langley Mill, and in addition thereto we desire you will continue the Turnpike from the Gate joining the common to the Gate near the Barn. With regard to the Gable End think that nothing further ought to be done but preparing Stones ‘til further Orders. On looking into the Lease of Blagill Mill we find that Mr Wm Jobling obliges himself to take all his coals and lime from Stublick Colliery and Langley Lime Kilns except such coals as he may take from Throckley Colliery and he also obliges himself to take such Quantities of Peats from Greenwich Hospital as he shall have occasion to use for the Works at Blagill Mill and to pay such Prices for such Coals Lime and Peats as those articles shall from time to time be charged to Langley Lead Mills. The Comm[issioner]s of Greenwich Hospital oblige themselves at all reasonable and convenient times to furnish & deliver to Mr Jobling from their Colliery at Stublick and their Lime Kiln or Lime Kilns at Langley all such Quantities of Coals and Lime (except such Coals as he may take from Throckley Colliery) as he shall have occasion to use for the Works at Blagill Lead Mill, & they also engage to furnish and deliver (the weather permitting) such Quantities of Peats to Mr Jobling from Langley So[uth] Common as he shall have occasion to use for the said Works at Blagill Mill he paying such prices annually for such Coals Lime and Peats as above mentioned. The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
