Messrs Mulcaster Farnacres 2nd March 1787.

We have this moment rec[eive]d yours of the 1st Inst with Copy Yours of the 28th Febry. What you propose as to knowing the Weight of the Lead before the Operation of Refining is performed in which you are to take Notice of the Weight of Litharge produced, from such Lead & the Quantity of Lead w[hic]h is to be produced from such litharge, in addition to what we have before said, is what we wish to know. After you receive the Casks, you may fill them at leisure, but as there is not to be any Sifting, we don’t expect the filling of them will take up a vast deal of Time, tho’ we can imagine it w[oul]d take more than to allow of the Carriage that brings the Casks to return with them filled. When ready, let them be sent Directed to Messrs Walker Fishwick & Co at their White Lead Manufactory & write to them & request that they will be so obliging as give the Carrier a rec[eip]t for them. We believe the Lead Mill Pay will be at some time in the Second Week of April but cannot say with certainty yet. We are

Your H[um]ble Servants Walton & Turner

PS We understand the Litharge Casks will hold 6 or 7 cwt. We wish whatever they hold that the Quantitys respectively may be even cwts only.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
