Queries on the Examination of the Accot. of Nicholas Walton & Hugh Boag Receivers of the Derwentwater Estate Between 31 Decem. 1737 & 30th of June 1739

No.1

Credit is taken for the following Sums for which no Vouchers are produced.

Alnwick house &c 2 1/2 Yrs Land Tax £ 0 17 2

Do. Window [tax] £ 0 15 0

Lorbottle Tyth £ 1 13 3

                                     £ 3 5 5

[Answer]

Mr Skutt to whom the Money was paid is Agent to the Duyke of Somerset to whom we resigned the Administration to the late Mr Fra Anderson, on his Settling an accot. with us, in which the £3 - 5 - 5 was charged, so that he Acco<oun>ted to us for our Debt & gave no Voucher for the said £ 3 - 5 - 5

No.3

December 30th 1738. 3000 Tyles at 24s per M [thousand] £3 0 0

                                             Should be £3 12 0

                                        Under Computed £0 12 0

[A] The leading of these tyles was only at 20s per M. so that the Charge of £3 is a right one & is a mistake in making the Leading at 24s per M

Do No. 3

500 Thraves at 2d per Thrave £5 0 0

                   Should be £4 3 4

               Over computed £0 16 8

NB the Accot. Says 600 thraves which makes the Computation right but does not agree with the Voucher

[A] This £5 is allowed to be a right Charge by Wm. Ironsides & Ptners as Undertakers of Building upon whose Accot. it was paid & is for 600 Thraves of Ling or Heather; We are Sorry the voucher disagrees but hope you may Sett it right, as we most certainly pd the £5 & has had it allowed in and with Wm. Ironsides & Ptners.

[A] The Fee Farme Rents in this Estate ever were charged distinct in any former Rentals & for that reason were not distinguished by us.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
