Letter – Nicholas Walton to John Maule – 27 Jul 1739

      Ravensworth Castle  July 27th  1739

To Mr Jno Maule at Greenwich



Dear Sir

      We were favoured wth yours of the 19th Inst. in due Course with our Quietus wch also came safe; & for your care of wch we are much Oblidged to you & return you herewith our hearty thanks.

	As to the forming our Accot. for last year it may be any shape Mr Hunter pleases, but we would by no means have it end the 30th April last, it is now preparing the 31st December last & will be sent you in a few posts, when it seems you will be so good as doe in it what is proper but we hope for Dispatch sake you will prevail upon Mr Hunter to settle it in the Manner it was done for the year 1737  You will Receive herewith a Bill for Eighteen Guineas (in <lieu> of what you pd. Mr Hunter) on Mr Benja. Shutt payable on Demand.

	We doe Assure you the Agreemnt. we made for Repairing & Building housing was done with all the Exactness we were capable of, & will be found in the whole Lower than the General Estimate. Wm. Lee for Aldston Mill was omitted in the General estimate but is as Necessary Repair as any one in the Estate, the Mill at present being coming down in the present wheelhole & the Farm being too Dear. John Parker is the son of Matt Parker who is Dead, and Nicho. Andrew is one of the <letts> of Housing at Newlands Computed in the General Estimate at a larger Sume & is a Joynt Tent. wth. William Taylor.

	We are Glad to hear the Court proceedings at Keswick are found right they cost us more Labour than can be Imagined. Mr Shutt will call upon Dr. Cowburn for the Money for the Horse so that he neads not give him self any Trouble abt. it. We have never heard whether the Horse pleases the Dr. or not pray tell him we would be glad to hear he does  & also tell him Oates are Cheap & we are wth. kind respects to all Friends
