Letter – Nicholas Walton to John Maule – 13 Apr 1740

      Ravensworth Castle  April 13th 1740

To Mr Maul



Dr Sir

	We reced. the favour of yours of the 28 March & likewise that of the 8th of April Inst. for both which we heartily thank you. The former brought us the form of an Acct. in which Shape you desire ours for 1738 to be made out ; but on duely Considering it we can by no means think the method a proper one, & accordingly have wrote our Sentim.ts upon it to Mr Hunter this day: a Coppy  of which we send you Inclosed, & begg the favour you will wait upon him & lett us hear from you as early as you can that we may gett the <live> Accts. dispatched for the next declaration.

	We begg you may not think we took anything amiss from you in regard to Mr Woodhouse, for it is certain you could have no other design in it, but to serve us. we did not think Mr Woodhouse used us well if by his means the Accot. was kept back, but as we would rather do what is not quite reasonable to be expected from us, than be behind in any Acknowledgements which is due from us, we agreed that you should give Mr Woodhouse what You thought necessary, & we again desire you will doe so, as soon as it is convenient , & whatever you soe disburse shall be thankfully repay’d you. We have wrote to Mr Woodhouse, but not knowing how to direct to him you have it Inclosed, which pray Seal and forward to him after you have perused it. And at Your first Opportunity pray shew Mr Woodhouse the Coppy of ours to Mr Hunter & you’ll much Oblige
