       Above you have several extracts from the Proposal Book and memorandums relative to the making up the Lead Mine Quarterly Accounts which we doubt not you will attend to.

       Caple Cleugh Lease being prior to Longholehead, Caple Cleugh Sun Vein, and the Middlecleugh Veins, will of course be intitled to its full Boundary which is 940 yards West and 260 yds East from the Engine Shaft. The next Lease in priority is Middle Cleugh and next to that Caple Cleugh Sun Vein & the better to enable you to judge how the matter is relative to the Caple Cleugh & Middle Cleugh Veins we inclose you a Copy of an Agreement relative to them which you may take a Copy of & return.

       We have wrote and recommended John <Friend> to succeed his Father but what salary the Hospital will give we cannot yet say. 

       We are glad to have a good acc[oun]t of your expectations for next year and hope the extra price for the Ore Carriage will cause an increase of Galloways. We shall expect your sending us an Estimate of the Quantity of Ore w[hi]ch it is supposed will be raised this year.

Mr Walton junr presents his compliments to Mr Ibbetson and desires he will be so good as acquaint him whether John Friend is appointed to succeed his Father or not as a person is immediately wanted to look after the washing the lead Ore before the
