      Ravensworth Castle. April.24. 1741

To Andrew Scott at Scremerston



      We are much Surprized to hear of any person Winning of Limestone in Scremerston Liberty without our Licence & therefore this Serves to desire you will Discharge all such persons as are doing so, till they in the first place pay us a Satisfaction for what they have have [sic] allready gott & afterw[ar]ds obtain a Licence from us. We do not demand an an [sic] unreasonable Satisfaction, but a reasonable one it is fitt we shou’d have & that being done will Induce us to Accomadate Every Gent. in the Neighbourhood with the Convenience when it does not Interfere with the Tennants of Scremerston.

      By a promise we made Mr Wilkie & Strangeways, they are to pay three half pence for the quantity they have had , but as to Such others as have got them without the least leave, we are yett to determine what they are to pay & of that before we fix it we desire your thoughts of, & then you shall have directions in Imediately after we receive your Ans[we]r to this.

      You may in the Meantime receive  Mr Wilkie & Mr Straingeways Money & acquaint that on Application to Us after they have paid we will order you to give them a Licence to Winn in a proiper place. The Accot. of the Several Quantitys wthy what is due from Mr Wilkie & Mr Straingeways you have Inclosed & we are
