									Unthank 25 Feby. 1778

Dear Madm.

I have your favour of the 22 Inst. and at your request have drawn a Bill upon your Son for the half year rent, wch. if you had not named it should not have drawn, being in hope to attend at Easter Sessions. I am thank the Almighty, better than I could have hoped, being left with all my senses perfect, and after so severe a stroak of an Apoplexy, reduced (by Large quantity of blood taken away, Blisters, Medicines, and six weeks confined in my bed) very soon after I was able to sit up a few hours in a day, found my strength return. Now can walk with a stick and rid[e] an hour or two in the day when the weather permits, from which am greatly benefitted.

So soon as I can rid[e] so far must be at the mines in the Shire, shall let you have my thoughts on my return. The Draught upon Mr. Baker is at sight for the half years rent due at Candlemas, to the order of Mr. Jno. Robson, Castle Durham. Beg you will Accept, & make my respectful Comp[limen]ts to y[ou]r self & son.

Dr. Madm. Yr. most Obt. Servt.

      Jno Westgarth

Mrs. Baker

A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
