Mr Darwin Hatton Street London Newcastle 30th June 1777

Sir I have to acknowledge the receipt of your several Letters of the 27th Ult[im]o & the 14th & 20th instant _ You must be mistaken in saying that Mr Glovers additional annuity was not provided for in the two last Quarters _ You inserted it in the Account of Quarterly Payments sent me of which you have the Amount at foot and likewise the Sums remitted you on that Account by which you will observe that I have remitted you £7 . 18s . 6d more than the Quarterly Payments _ Inclosed you have three Bills drawn by Messrs. Bell & Co one for £19 . 16s . 11d to pay Doctor Thurlow the Proportion due from the Ex[ecu]tors of the late Sir Wr Blackett for the Composition for the Tithe Ore from 22nd Jan[ua]ry to 14 Feb[rua]ry for which please to send me Doctor Thurlows Receipt A Bill for 200 on Account of the Qua[rter[ly Payments on Sir Jno Trevelyans Account to 30 Sept. next The other Bill for £150 is on acco[un]t of the Payments made & to be made on acco[un]t of the late Election _ You will Please to pay Mr Ward the £35 . 14s . 0d tho I really do not know what Mr Ward nor what this Payment is for but imagine for the Expenses of his Journey You will likewise pay Mr Hague £56 . 5s . 0d the Balance of his acco[un]t. Sir John thinks Mr Hagues Charge of £18 . 7s . 0d is something extraordinary as the two latter setts of Letters (as he terms it) was quite unnecessary & those relating to Mr Dowe’s declining were certainly a prejudice to Sir John he likewise desired you will make a Charge for your trouble etc on that account.

I received the Box of Deeds & Writings safe but have not yet had time to Examine them _ Sir John intends setting forward for Somersetshire about the 20 July & does not take London in his Way. I am etc J E B.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
