Mr Darwin Hatton Street London Newcas 29th July 1777
Sir Your favour of the 3rd instant I received & observe what you say with respect to Mrs Glovers Annuity _ The several Sums that I have remitted you this year were to make the Quarterly Payments & I believe will pretty near answer that purpose but if you have applied part of that money to make any other Payments either on the late Sir Walter Blacketts account or on Sir John Trevelyans it was improper & of course must confuse my Accounts
Mrs Browns Annuity must be paid from the Time of Sir Walters Death. As you are of Opinion that the Payments to Joseph Williams are to be continued during his apprenticeship and have Sir John Trevelyans Directions for it you will please to continue them. Sir John desired me to acquaint you that he will pay off Sir Walter Blacketts two Bonds to you for £160 on the 4 November next. If you should leave London before that Time into whose hands would you have the Money paid. I find Sir John intends to appoint Mrs Gordons Agent to transact his Business in London
Inclosed you will receive Messrs. Bell Cookson & Co bill on Messrs. Hallifax & Co dated 22nd instant at 30 days for Five Hundred pounds to pay Sir Edwd. Winningtons half years Int[ere]st on Sir Walter Blackett’s Bond & Mortgage due the 6th Aug[us]t next which when paid you will please to send me the receipt.
I likewise inclose you Bell Cookson & Cos bill on Castell Whately & Powell dated 29th instant at fourteen days for for One hundred & fifty seven Pounds ten shillings for half a Years Composition for Weardale Tithe Ore due from Sir Thos. Blackett the 14th Aug[us]t next You will excuse me I hope for giving you the trouble of making this Payment as Dr Thurlow has been wrote to that this Payment would be made by you. Sir John set forward for Somersetshire the 22nd instant _ he desired me to give his Compliments & thinks himself much obliged to you for your kind Assistance at the late Election _ I opened your Letter to him dated 22nd instant which I shall inclose him by the next Post and shall recommend the larger Annuity of 25 Guineas each to be paid to the Misses Dalstones which I am satisfied will be complied with. I am etc J E B.
