Sir Thos Blackett Bart Newcastle 2nd Jany 1790 (sic)

    Bretton Yorkshire

Dear Sir	Your letter of the 24th Ult[im]o was delivered to me by Mr Bell & I had some conversation with him & Mr Forster on the subject of your letter After the conversation that you have had with them & what I have wrote to you on this matter it is needless for me to say any thing more on the subject.

I observe that you are desirous of becoming the purchaser of the whole moiety of the Partn[er]s[hi]p Mines provided it may be had at a Sum not exceeding £2000 but that you will have the whole or no part _ As the Mines were by this Advertisement to be put up in Six Lots your Agents could not with propriety according to your directions bid for the Lots separate which I had told Mr Wren the Agent for the Bacon family, he has wrote for further instructions & unless the whole is put up together I do not se[e] that any person for you can take upon himself to make an offer; Mr Bell has wrote a letter to the Gent[leme]n of the Lead Co (who came down to bid for these Mines) to acquaint them that on your having more full information you had come to a resolution of purchasing the whole moiety provided it came within what you thought to be the Value.

These Gent[leme]n will certainly attend the Sale & after what you said to them I fear that they will not think themselves well treated. I am etc J.E.B

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
