Dear Sir       I am favoured with your letter of the 22nd inst. & am much obliged to you for the Information that you give me respecting the Seizure of the two Ships at Rouen, but I do apprehend that there must be some mistake in this matter, & that the late Edict wch. was Published is withdrawn with respect to some Articles; but should not that be the Case the ships will not be the least more safe by having Clearances from Ostend, those two Ships wch. are seized having (as you say) clearances from that Port.  A Merchant of this place is just arrived from France, he did not hear of this Prohibition and left a Ship unloading Lead from London,  If any fresh Edict has been Issued it has certainly been done with a View towards compelling our Minister to submit to their Terms.  The Proprietors of the Virgin Mines have certainly overstood their Market,  I am now selling refined Lead at £16 . 10 . 0 p Fr. in small parcels, & I do apprehend that we cannot long support that Price.  Our Meeting will be on Wednesday the 30th inst. the result of which you shall be acquainted with.           I am etc    J. E. Blackett
