I have sent you other 4 Smelters so you must put 6 to each Hearth, & let every two Men make 4 Ton of Lead p[er] Week. You'll take care they make no wast nor bad lead in their Workings but all work one to another to the Masters advantage and not in a spitefull manner one set w[i]th another to the masters loss. You may acquaint them that if I can make it appear they are any deceit &c one w[i]th another in their Working to Sr Walters loss, shall immediatly be discharged from his Works. & am

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
