To Mr Simpson Ravensworth Castle Decem. 2nd 1759
Sir
We reced. yours of the 24 Ult. in course in Answer to which we entirely approve of your having agreed with the Dean & Chapt. Of Carlisle for the renewal of the Leases of Dilston & Lorbottle Tyths, tho we think the Fine a high one but as they are arbitrary folks to deal with, we must be content with it as it now stands. As to the Fees upon the Renewal, we find we pay’d £5:5 at the last renewal, & as we would wish to be on good terms with the Chapter desire you’ll pay the same now; to answer which payment & that of the Fine above we send you Inclosed Mr Bell & Co’s Bill on Vere Glyn and Hallifax dated 1st Inst at 30 days date for £105.5.0 payable to us which we have Endorsed to you & desire you will acknowledge the rect. of it by return of the Post. You must take a Voucher for the Fees & Inclose it to us & we desire you will send the Counterparts to us as soon as you can that we may submit them to the Board for their Execution. We are
Yours etc Boag & Walton
P.S. A voucher for the Fine to us from the Dean & Chapts Agent is necessary agreeing in date with the Leases which we begg you will get & Inclose with that for the Fees. The Rec’ts must be of [names underlined] Messrs Boag & Walton Junr & not of Messrs Walton & Boag as Mr Boag now stands first in the Commission
Yours of the 29 came to hand just as we were Sealing this, in answer to which no Lease is yet executed to Topping, & when he has one it will be with a Covenant not be assigned without leave from the Board. As to the incerting 16 Commiss’rs in the Tyth Leases we have no objection thereto as seven or more of them will execute.
