To the Revd Mr Ritson at Cockermouth

Sr,

Your favour of the 19th Inst. came safe to hand tho I Expected it sooner. Mr Jefferson at last Court desired Earnestly that he might have time to apply to Colonel Mordant & some other friends for to have the Charge Mitigated which I granted, And a month was of time agreed upon, I at the same time was to Speak to Mr Simpson to stay proceedings till that time was Expired which I did & I hope he has done nothing further; but if Mr Jefferson has not got his f[rien]ds to Apply & get it Mitigated Mr Simpson will have orders to proceed tho I know of nothing that is yet done since that time .

In my opinion the money must be pd & the sooner the better for the Expences can never be less but if he can make it less, it is much the same to my P.tner & selfe. This we have Try’d and could not prevail but perhaps he has, we shall be glad to hear in a Convenient time I am for Mr Walton & Self

      Dr Sr. Your Hble. Sert.

      Hugh Boag

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
