Sir/ Sir Walter Blackett desires you will let him know whe[the]r the allegations in the inclosed petition are true & what you think is proper for him to do in case the Estate of the said John Ridley sho[ul]d Escheat for want of an heir do you think the petitioners or <Inquiry> etc w[oul]d have the better claim to Sir Walter’s Generosity in such a case? You will please to take care of the petition. I am etc    HR

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
