Name Our Beer competition!

Corking suggestions are coming in for our Name the Beer competition :

  • Head Smelter
  • Lead Head
  • Lead Quencher
  • Canny Carrier
  • Lead Poisoning

Which one is worthy to win a meal for two at the Dipton Mill Inn?
Can you do better?

Smelting and carrying the lead ore would have been a thirsty business, and the smelters and carriers no doubt welcomed a glass of ale at one of the many ale houses in Hexhamshire and along the lead route towards Blaydon. So we asked Geoff Brooker of one of those ale houses, the Dipton Mill Inn, to brew us a beer which will be available later this year in selected pubs along the lead route.

You can enter by completing an entry form at the show, posting your entry on our facebook page, or by emailing us at dukesfield@outlook.com.

Entries close on 23rd August, and the lucky winner will receive a meal for two at the Dipton Mill Inn.

Cheers!

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
