Colonel Beaumont Newcastle 13th. Sep.r 1802

Hexham Abbey

Dr. Sir

I send you enclosed Copy of Mr. Williamson’s Opinion taken the 9th. Aug.t 1792 on the Agreemt. made with the Bishop of Durham for his Lott Ore of Weardale Mines; which Opinion was taken in Consequence of the Death of Sir Thos. Blackett, and soon after which I am informed (for no Application was made to me) that the Bishop being dissatisfied with the Agreement which he entered into for his Lot Ore in the Year 1791, he took Advice about the breaking of that Agreement, but not on the Score of Fraud which he charges me with in the Bill filed, not meeting with any Encouragement to proceed, he dropt the Affair till lately, when he now brings forward the Charge of Fraud; if it is thought a Fraud at this time, why was it not thought so at the time the Bishop endeavoured to break the Agreement, & took Advice for that Purpose. ---I write by this Post to Mr. R.Wilson, who will for the Future correspond with Mr. Wr. Heron in this Business.

I send you enclosed a Letter which I have wrote to Mrs. Forster and Sons, should it meet with your Approbation, Mr. Bell will forward it to one of the Lead Agents to deliver to her. I am &c. J.E.B.

I have not yet sold any Lead at £31 the Fo.[dde]r but am on the Point of doing it for Quantities of 600 Pieces for the Lead Works.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
